Ageless Icons
We knew we were not reinventing the wheel when my two partners and I joined forces to advocate for older models and to create IconicFocus Model Agency, an agency dedicated to Supermodels and Cover Girls from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. Patty Sicular, the co-founder, Jill Cohn Perlman and I came from the same era. We were lucky enough to have worked with all of these models at the height of their careers.
In the 80’s and 90’s, these were the “IT-girls”—they were the best of the best. These timeless women were photographed by all the legendary photographers for top magazines and major ad campaigns. These women were the muses to top designers and fiercely graced the runway of ever major fashion shows in both NYC and Europe.
Patty and Jill learned from the iconic Eileen and Jerry Ford, and I came from the editorial world working at numerous magazines as a fashion editor and then a stylist. Through the years, we watched the industry change drastically and evolve from the creative Warhol days of Studio 54 to a digital industry. It eventually became more about followers on social media than art. We either had to adapt with the times or challenge this new norm. So, jointly, we decided to develop an agency that would advocate for older models and champion the philosophy of Ageless Beauty, Body Positivity and Inclusivity. We believe that Ageless Beauty is not a trend but our reality, that Beauty should not have an expiration date. It is evident that this change is now happening. We applaud and welcome it.
Older women are now showcased in ads and featured again in top magazines. We are elated that both the cosmetic and fashion industries are finally changing to reflect this. We have learned to love our wrinkles: they are badges of honor that we earned and we should be proud to wear them with pride. IconicFocus is honored to be apart of the I AM project and to be included amongst the beautiful imagery of Angelika Buettner. Angelika, your vision and message are a true inspiration.
So, in the end, we did not reinvent the wheel, nor did we reinvent Ageless Beauty, but we all are helping to reinvent a movement that together we could empower each other to make a change that will last forever.
